Jackson State University

Introduction

Jackson State University developed from Natchez Seminary, founded October 23, 1877, in Natchez, Mississippi. The seminary was affiliated with the American Baptist Home Mission Society of New York, who established it "for the moral, religious, and intellectual improvement of Christian leaders of the colored people of Mississippi and the neighboring states".[6][7] In 1883, the school changed its name to Jackson College and moved from Natchez to a site in Jackson, the capital. Today that site serves as the campus of Millsaps College.

Jackson College moved to its current location early in the 20th century, where it developed into a full state university.

In 1934, during the Great Depression, The Baptist Society withdrew financial support. The school became a state-supported public institution in 1940, known as the Mississippi Negro Training School. The name has since been changed to express development: Jackson College for Negro Teachers (1944). After desegregation, Jackson State College (1967); with the addition of graduate programs and expanded curriculum, Jackson State University (1974).

Hostel: - The university has a total of 5 hostels in the university in which the university is providing well-furnished rooms with all the necessary facilities like a bed, mattress, cafeteria, WIFI Internet facility, etc. It can accommodate more than 2,000 students at a time.

University distance from Hostel: - One hostel is located inside the university campus and the other 4 are located near the university campus. There is a walking distance of 5 mins between the hostel and the university campus. Room occupancy info: - The hostels are available in only four sharing occupancies in rooms. Students can choose one of them based on their needs, requirement, budget, and availability.

Basic Amenities: - All the rooms are well-furnished and centrally air-conditioned with all the necessary amenities like a bed, bed sheets, mattress, study table, wardrobes, etc. Moreover, there is a common study room is there in every hostel.

Laundry room info: - Each floor of every hostel is having a common laundry room that can be used by every student of that hostel. Kitchen info: - Each floor of every hostel is having two common kitchens which can be used by every student of that particular floor. Kitchens are shared with 2-3 electric burners, and a microwave, where students can cook their meals whenever they want to do.

Washroom and Toilet info: - There is two washrooms in every floor of each hostel.

Boy and Girl Division info: - Boys and girls hostels are separate. Security info: - All the hostels are very safe and secure as they have security cameras in every hostel for student safety. Security staff is always there for the security of the students.

Indian Mess availability info: - Indian food is available in the mess of the hostel.

Gym info: - The university has a gym in the campus with modern machines and tools like dumbbells, treadmill, etc.

Student Life

In order to make students' lives more interesting there are all conditions in the institute to conduct cultural measures. Institutions organize different festivals, tours, games and encourage students to take part in different study and sports competitions. For students' accommodation there are such conditions as hostel and separate comfortable rooms with all the conditions. Indian mess faculty is present in the hostel. Separate hostels for boys and girls. 24 hours Wi-Fi facility is available for students.
