Mississippi State University

Introduction

The university began as The Agricultural and Mechanical College of the State of Mississippi (or Mississippi A&M), one of the national land-grant colleges established after Congress passed the Morrill Act in 1862. It was created by the Mississippi Legislature on February 28, 1878, to fulfill the mission of offering training in "agriculture, horticulture and the mechanical arts ... without excluding other scientific and classical studies, including military tactics." The university received its first students in the fall of 1880 in the presidency of General Stephen D. Lee.

In 1887 Congress passed the Hatch Act, which provided for the establishment of the Agricultural Experiment Station in 1888. The Cooperative Extension Service was established in 1914 by the Smith-Lever Act. The university has since had its mission expanded and redefined by the Legislature. In 1932, the Legislature renamed the university as Mississippi State College.

In 1958 the Legislature renamed the university Mississippi State University in recognition of its academic development and addition of graduate programs. The Graduate School had been organized (1936), doctoral degree programs had begun (1951), the School of Forest Resources had been established (1954), and the College of Arts and Sciences had replaced the General Science School (1956).

Hostel: - The university has a total of 5 hostels in the university in which the university is providing well-furnished rooms with all the necessary facilities like a bed, mattress, cafeteria, WIFI Internet facility, etc. It can accommodate more than 2,000 students at a time.

Some of the other important facts about the hostel are: -

University distance from Hostel: - One hostel is located inside the university campus and the other 4 are located near the university campus. There is a walking distance of 5 mins between the hostel and the university campus. Room occupancy info: - The hostels are available in only four sharing occupancies in rooms. Students can choose one of them based on their needs, requirement, budget, and availability.

Basic Amenities: - All the rooms are well-furnished and centrally air-conditioned with all the necessary amenities like a bed, bed sheets, mattress, study table, wardrobes, etc. Moreover, there is a common study room is there in every hostel.

Laundry room info: - Each floor of every hostel is having a common laundry room that can be used by every student of that hostel. Kitchen info: - Each floor of every hostel is having two common kitchens which can be used by every student of that particular floor. Kitchens are shared with 2-3 electric burners, and a microwave, where students can cook their meals whenever they want to do.

Washroom and Toilet info: - There is two washrooms in every floor of each hostel.

Boy and Girl Division info: - Boys and girls hostels are separate. Security info: - All the hostels are very safe and secure as they have security cameras in every hostel for student safety. Security staff is always there for the security of the students.

Indian Mess availability info: - Indian food is available in the mess of the hostel.

Gym info: - The university has a gym in the campus with modern machines and tools like dumbbells, treadmill, etc.

Student Life

In order to make students' lives more interesting there are all conditions in the institute to conduct cultural measures. Institutions organize different festivals, tours, games and encourage students to take part in different study and sports competitions. For student�s accommodation there are conditions such as hostels and separate comfortable rooms with all the conditions.

Indian mess faculty is present in the hostel. Separate hostels for boys and girls. 24 hours Wi-Fi facility is available for students.
